The beautiful city of Cusco is famous worldwide due to the numerous archaeological remains left by the Inca culture, its narrow streets still preserve the temples and palaces that once housed those men and women forjadores of one of the most powerful empires in America, known like the Tawantinsuyo. Cusco is the gateway to one of the most spectacular archaeological sites in the continent, Machu Picchu, an imposing Inca architectural creation, nestled in the middle of mountains and deep canyons.
HIGHLIGHTS ( highlights of the tours)
Day 01: Cusco City Tour.
1 hrs. If you arrive to Cusco the same day, in the morning, pick up is from bus station or airport, then transfer you to the Hotel booked for our agency
13:30 hrs. City tour Cusco, visiting the Plaza Mayor, the Cathedral and the Temple of the Sun or Korikancha; we will make a pleasant walk through the bohemian district of San Blas, cradle of the most renowned artists and craftsmen of Cusco, visit its beautiful church, with an impressive pulpit, a work of wood filigree representing the fruits of the region and visit some of the craft workshops that are located in its small Main Square.
On the way back, pass by Hatunrumiyoc Street where you will appreciate the Stone of the Twelve Angles. Continue outside the city to visit the Inca complexes of Kenko, Tambomachay, Puca Pucara and the impressive Sacsayhuaman Fortress, strategically built on a hill, dominating Cusco, famous for its huge carved stones assembled with astounding precision, forming the external walls of the complex. Some of these stones exceed 9 m in height and weigh more than 350 tons.
Then they will be transferred to the hotel.
Day 02: Excursion to the Sacred Valley of the Incas
Pick up after breakfast to start the excursion to the Sacred Valley of the Incas, on the Vilcanota River, where you will be able to appreciate the typical Indian market that takes place on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Sundays, you will be able to experience the customs of its inhabitants in The typical market. (On Sundays mass is celebrated in Quechua, the native language).
Then you will go to Urubamba where you can have lunch in a relaxing place in the valley.
In the afternoon, you will continue our route through Calca and Urubamba on the way to the Fortress and Citadel of Ollantaytambo, built to guard the entrance of this part of the valley and protect it from possible invasions of the inhabitants of the jungle; It is constituted by a series of overlapping terraces.
You will have the opportunity to walk through the streets of the town and thus have a clear idea of how this military, religious and cultural center was during the Inca Empire.
Then, at the indicated time, you will take the train from the town of Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes.
18:00 hrs. Departure by train from Ollantaytambo to Aguas Calientes.
20:00 hrs. Arrival time to Aguas Calientes / Upon arrival at Aguas Calientes Village, you will be transferred to the Hotel.
Pick up from the hotel early morning to leave by bus from Aguas Calientes to Machu Picchu ( 25 minutes)
Upon arrival, you will make contact with our guide and then have a guided tour of the Citadel, visiting the Main Square, the Circular Tower, the Sacred Solar Clock, the Royal Quarters, the Temple of the Three Windows and the cemeteries.
Then you will have free time and on their own to take a walk around the citadel, then you will go back on the same bus to Aguas Calientes, in this town, you will have time to have lunch, until before the departure train to Ollantaytambo. It could be at 15:20 hrs or 16:22 hrs or 18:20 hrs (depending on availability), upon arrival in Ollantaytambo, our driver will be waiting to transfer you to the Hotel in Cusco.
04:30 hrs. Pick up time from your hotel a meeting point for the group and make a trip of 2 hours aprox. to the town of Pitumarca, picturesque village south of the city of Cusco, this is where we will stop to buy some things as rain ponchos, mineral water or energy drinks, snacks, etc.
After this short stop, continues our journey through magical landscapes that seamlessly are mixed between mysterious snowy mountains, multicoloured crops, Andean camelids and deep valleys to observe very picturesque villages as Ocefina, Chilca, this will be where we’ll descend from our transport and have some time to stretch our legs and relax from the trip, here is where you can taste a nutritious Andean breakfast with the residents of the area and have some time to organize the rest of the things that we need for the walk that will take approximately 3 hours (7.5 km) up the mountain, we’ll go through the town of Machuraccay and then to the foothills of Vinicunca where villagers have organized a checkpoint and collect 10 soles to enter this mystical place, there we’ll begin to walk a path where step by step the landscape of mountains of intense colors is changing and small streams of ice water run throug that nourish and give life to the valley, we will see how the colours around us are changing with the movement of the unpredictable weather of the mountains.
On top of the mysterious mountain of 7 colours (Vinicunca), there is enough time to take pictures and capture images of memory time and enjoy a nice snack while sight-seeing. After this wonderfull experience, we’ll start our way down.
The way down is much calmer and more easily, arriving to the town of Chilca where, we will be awaiting as a reward a very nice lunch prepared by our Andean Chef and share the experience with the rest of the group, then we’ll return to our bus which will bring us back to Cusco. You will arrive around 18:00 hrs.
Pick up from the hotel and transfer to the airport or Bus station.
